Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised a book release ceremony for the unveiling of 2 books- Alfaaz and Soch te Kalam, here today. Renowned Punjabi Writer and Poet Dr. Surjit Patar, Padma Shri Awardee, Chairman, Punjab Arts Council graced the event as the Chief Guest and, Mrs. Bhupinder Kaur Patar and Dr. Gurdip Sharma, Secretary, GGDSD College Hariana Managing Committee, Punjab and Former Senior PU Senate and Syndicate Member were the Guests of Honour. The books, conceptualised during the lockdown period, are anthologies of poetic creations of academicians and students. The books bring together poems on a wide spectrum of themes ranging from philosophical musings to culture, teachings of gurus, spirituality, environmental concerns, nature, etc. Speaking at the inaugural, Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava said that the response to the idea of these anthologies was extremely enthusiastic and poetic contributions flowed in from different parts of India and abroad. She added that the books are a bouquet of poems reflecting an interesting variety of tone, tenor and thought., and expressed hope that the renditions strike a chord with the readers. Dr. Surjit Patar expressed appreciation for this commendable endeavour of the college to promote poetic creativity of academicians and students. He said that this initiative holds immense significance as a poem is the deepest voice of humanity and gives voice to silence. On the art of poetry, Dr. Patar stressed on the intensity of emotion, craft and consciousness as the three ingredients that breathe life into poetry. A ghazal rendition by Dr. Patar and by Mrs. Bhupinder Kaur Patar made the occasion all the more momentous. In the honouring ceremony, the dignitaries felicitated the editorial team and the contributors.
With Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava as the Chief Editor, Alfaaz- a trilingual anthology by academicians is the result of diligent efforts of the Editorial team comprising of Dr. Mridula Sharma (English), Dr. Sarita Chauhan (Hindi), Dr. Amardeep Kaur (Punjabi) and Dr. Komil Tyagi (Design). Soch te Kalam contains students’ and alumni poetry accompanied by theme appropriate paintings by students and its Editors are Dr. Nisha Bhargava and Dr. Amardeep Kaur, and the student editors are Navpreet Kaur and Komalpreet Kaur.
