Punjab cadre observers underwent COVID vaccination before departure on election duty: CEO Dr. Raju

Chandigarh, March 7: The Election Commission of India has appointed 38 IAS and 12 IPS observers from Punjab for the forthcoming Assembly elections in five states of the country. Among those, 9 officers have been vaccinated against COVID today.

This information was given here today by the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, Dr. S. Karuna Raju.

Dr. Raju said that the Election Commission of India had issued notification declaring all the personnel deployed in the elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala as front line workers and made it mandatory to get them vaccinated before reporting on their duty.

 Under which the vaccination of these observers was started today at Government District Hospital Phase 6 Mohali and this work would be completed in next few days.

Dr. Raju said that out of the officers who have been vaccinated today, one officer is to assume duty as an observer on March 8, 2021 while some are to assume duty from March 9, 2021.

He said that the instructions received by the Election Commission of India on March 6, 2021 regarding the COVID vaccination of the officers on duty as observers during the elections have been brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary Punjab Mrs. Vini Mahajan. Accordingly, officials of the health department were instructed to make necessary arrangements for immunization.
