ISSUES DIRECTIONS TO POLICE & TRANSPORT DEPARTMENTS AND DCs TO AVERT ANY HARASSMENT TO GENERAL PUBLIC
CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 25: Amid COVID-19 pandemic, the Punjab Government has extended the validity of driving licenses, registration certificates (RCs) or permits, which had expired since February 1, 2020 or would expire on 31st December 2020. Now these documents would be treated to be valid till December 31, 2020.
Disclosing this here today, the Transport Minister Razia Sultana said that the driving licenses, RCs or permits expired since February 1, 2020, which could not get renewed due to lockdown or the documents which would expire on December 31, 2020, would be treated as valid till December 31, 2020.
Razia Sultana said that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued fresh instructions yesterday for documents related to Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle rules, 1989 like driving licence, Registration Certificates, Permits etc. She said that concerned authorities had also been apprised in this regard so that people were not put to inconvenience and rush at SDMs/RTA offices. She said that Police & Transport departments besides all Deputy Commissioners had been directed to ensure smooth movement of vehicles amid COVID-19 restrictions as per said instructions.
