Ludhiana, August 20, 2024
Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill on Tuesday stated that the Punjab Government is committed to safeguarding women from crimes against them.
After meeting with Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal and other officials of Ludhiana Commissionerate Police, Gill addressed a press conference, emphasizing the government’s duty to ensure women’s protection from crime and any kind of exploitation. She also mentioned that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is making efforts to safeguard women’s rights and address their issues and challenges.
Gill advised young men and women not to start working in a company until they receive an offer letter in hand, especially cautioning young women seeking attractive job offers, who are often victims of immigration scams. She stressed that if companies fail to provide employment documents, women should report to the police immediately.
Following the meeting, Gill visited a women’s jail where she interacted with the inmates to understand their issues and inquired about the medical facilities and legal aid available to them. She emphasized the need for proper counselling and timely reporting of women-related cases to the commission.
Gill mentioned that this was her third visit, having previously visited women’s jails in Amritsar and Ropar. She highlighted issues faced by elderly women who were under trial for a long time. She expressed her commitment to visiting all women’s jails in Punjab to address their challenges.
