Chandigarh, March 6:
The Sports, Youth Services and NRI Affairs Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has said that the Punjab State Youth Festival would be held every year and more and more number of youth would be exhorted to participate in these festivities.
Releasing a coffee table book at Punjab Bhawan in Sector-3 here today regarding the Punjab State Youth Festival, the minister said that this festival proved to be a major success and saw participation of around 23,000 youth who were associated with the villages and the youth clubs. He also divulged that three percent reservation system for the players is in place courtesy Punjab Government. He also said that the classes have begun at the newly set up Maharaja Bhupindra Singh Sports University at Patiala and furthermore, 100 acres of land has been purchased for the University. Disclosing, he said that the subjects pertaining to Sports Sciences, Sports Psychology, Sports Injuries and Sports Business Management would be taught at the University. He had toured Loughborough University in England for assistance in setting up a robust infrastructure for the sports university.
The minister further divulged that nowadays, the psychological training is very important for the players as without it, the players cannot perform well at the international level. He also divulged that cash awards worth Rs. 21 Crore have been distributed till date to the players which is the highest in the country. He also honoured hardworking employees of the Sports Department and the Chandigarh University besides eminent figures from the diverse fields.
Among others present on the occasion included the Chancellor of the Chandigarh University Satnam Singh Sandhu, Director Sports Department Sanjay Popli, VC of the University Dr. R. S. Bawa, Deputy Director Sports Mr. Kartar Singh, Deputy Director Sports Kamaljit Singh Sidhu and Assistant Director Charanjit Singh.
