(Prof Chandumajra says Haryana CM statement putting conditions for transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab bereft of logic, says all Commissions had made it clear that there was no contagious Hindi speaking area available for transfer to Haryana from Punjab)
Chandigarh, April 4 2022
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to call an all party meeting to give a befitting reply to the undue central inference in State affairs as well as take a united stand against conspiracies to rob Punjab of its river waters as well as land at the behest of Haryana.

Talking to newsmen here, senior party leader Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra the chief minister’s inability to present a united front was the reason for today’s state of affairs. He said the CM did not take up the brazen manner in which the central government robbed Punjab of its representative in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) during his meeting with the Prime Minister after taking over office. “This emboldened the centre which passed a notification extending central civil service rules to union territory employees of Chandigarh”.
Asserting that the chief minister only tweeted about the development two days after its occurrence and that the special assembly session did not serve any purpose, Prof Chandumajra said “it is not too late to make amends even now”. He said the BJP was taking advantage of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s weaknesses and was cornering Punjab with Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar making unfounded demands which were bereft of any logic. “All Commissions have made it clear that there are no Hindi speaking areas in Punjab which are in contiguity with Haryana but still Khattar has made this statement to put pressure on Punjab and make it barter for Chandigarh”. The SAD leader said Chandigarh was always a part of Punjab and its ad-hoc status as a union territory was only a temporary measure. “So no conditions can be imposed for transferring Chandigarh to Punjab as is being done by the Haryana chief minister”, he added.
Prof Chandumajra also asked the Punjab AAP unit to clarify where it stood on the matter. He said the top AAP leadership had been adopting double standards on all issues concerning Punjab, including those of its river waters which had emboldened the Haryana chief minister who had now made this also a prerequisite for transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab. “The Punjab AAP unit should specify whether it was with Punjabis on the issue of river waters or with Kejriwal. Wishy –washy statements which convey nothing will not help Punjab’s cause”, he added.
