(Urges ECI to appoint regular DGP on merit)
(Requests directions be issued to Cong govt to stop bogus advertisements at the cost of taxpayers money)

Chandigarh, December 15 2021

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to review all postings and transfers of SSPs and DSPs and other senior officers done with the ulterior motive of influencing the outcome of the general election to the State Assembly.

In a representation to the chief election commissioner submitted here, a two member delegation of Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema also urged the EC to appoint a regular DGP on merit in the State to boost the confidence of the people deploying central forces at polling booths. It also called for videography at all polling booths besides urging the EC to issue directions to the State government to stop misleading and bogus advertisements at the cost of taxpayers money.

The SAD representation said the manner in which transfers were being done on a daily basis on monetary concerns as per media reports had put a big question mark on the conduct of the forthcoming assembly elections in a free and fair manner. It said it was strange that in the last three months the government could not appoint a regular DGP and had purposely appointed an Acting DGP to keep senior officers on tenterhooks and coerce them into implementing its political agenda of vendetta against the SAD and its top leadership.

The SAD representation even annexed a copy of the Indian Express report giving details of how cabinet minister Rana Gurjit Singh leveled charges of bribery against home minister Sukhjinder Randhawa by stating that the latter was collecting between Rs two to Rs five crore from police officers for posting as SSPs. This report is yet to be contradicted by the government.

The representation also detailed how the chief minister, home minister and PCC President Sukhjinder Randhawa were trying their level best to coerce police officers to register false cases against the top leadership of the SAD. It said officers who refused to become party to these wrong doings were being shunted out with the Bureau of Investigations (BOI) witnessing the transfer of Mr Arpit Shuka and Mr Varinder Kumar in the space of one month. He said current BOI chief S K Asthana had come under such extreme pressure that he had to be hospitalized and was currently taking treatment in hospital.

It also pointed out that PCC chief Navjot Sidhu had also threatened his own government that in case a false case was not registered against the top SAD leadership he would keep a fast unto death. It also disclosed that the law and order situation was in shambles with gangsters calling the roost even as the sand and liquor mafia was virtually controlling the State government.

It said instead of doing anything to control the situation, chief minister Charanjit Channi was making bogus announcements every day with the sole purpose of influencing votes. It requested the EC to put a stop to the loot of the State exchequer by way of false advertisements. EOM
