The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislature wing today asked Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana K P Singh to extend the duration of the forthcoming special assembly session to ten days to discuss burning issues of the State as well as take stock of the promises made to Punjabis by the Congress party and why they had not been fulfilled.
In a memorandum to the Speaker, SAD legislature party leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said since this would be the last session of the current House, Punjabis expected the ruling Congress party to given an account of their work besides telling people why promises made to farmers, youth and under privileged sections of the society had not been fulfilled. “The farmers were not granted complete loan waiver of Rs 90,000 crore. Youth neither received employment or unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month even as social benefits including old age pension and shagun scheme were not increased as promised”, Mr Dhillon said while talking to news men here.
Mr Dhillon said it was shocking that the government had not even kept time for burning issues of the State including the government’s inability to provide compensation at the rate of Rs 50,000 per acre for cotton growers whose crop had been destroyed by pink bollworm attack. He said the SAD also wanted to discuss the severe shortage of DAP as well as its black marketing. “We also want to take up the government’s failure to provide scholarship to SC students as well as failure to take action against corrupt deeds of its ministers and legisalators”.
Meanwhile Mr Dhillon also raised objection to the manner in which the Congress government had drafted the resolution regarding extension of the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) from the earlier 15 km to 50 km. He said the resolution in its current form would not achieve anything. “The issue is one of direct interference of the centre in State affairs. The State government must pass an executive order disallowing the interference of BSF in policing matters beyond 15 km instead of passing mere resolutions which will not change the situation on the ground”.
legislators present on the occasion included N K Sharma,Pawan Tinu, Harinderpal Chandumajra, Rosy Barkandi, Baldev Khaira, Dr Sukhwinder Sukhi & Manpreet Ayali.
