DC Aashika Jain Approves the installation of ANPRs besides hiring 12 PESCo Guards
Reiterates Commitment to act against the illegal Mining tough
SAS Nagar, 31 December 2024
Recapitulating its commitment to going tough against illegal mining, the Deputy Commissioner, Aashika Jain, has ordered the Mining officials to replace the existing CCTV cameras at Interstate Check posts with ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Jain said that by taking this initiative, the district SAS Nagar would become the first in the state to have such a modernizing check system, strengthening its efforts in curbing illegal mining.
She said that apart from the existing three interstate checkposts set up at Siswan T Point, Daffarpur, and Handesra, one more checkpost has been approved that would come up at Derabassi-Barwala road.
Elaborating on the measures taken by the District Administration to tighten the noose against illegal mining, she said that apart from replacing the CCTV cameras with APNRs at all interstate check posts, twelve guards would also be hired from the Punjab Ex-servicemen Corporation to deploy them on all four check posts.
She said that the interstate check posts make sure that any vehicle carrying mining material must have a QR Code generated GST bill to ensure that the material loaded by the vehicle has been procured legally. These vehicles have been issued a zero slip to make them enter the records of these checkposts. In case, the tipper carrying mining material fails to produce any bill or legitimate document about the material, a challan under Punjab Minor Mineral Rules (PMMR) sections 74 and 75 has been issued.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district has already been acting tough against the illegal mining and a fine of Rs 3.36 Crore has been recovered in the past six months. The ANPR Cameras would prove more helpful in acting strictly against those who fled from the checkpoint by capturing their registration plates and other identification of the vehicles. She added that the Mohali Administration would not spare the offenders of illegal mining and all the efforts would be made to make every violator to be booked as per law.
