Capt Harminder Singh, who has also served as the President of the Jalandhar district rural unit, joined the SAD here along with a large number of Congressmen. While welcoming him into the party fold, the SAD President announced that he would also contest the forthcoming assembly elections on the SAD ticket from Sultanpur Lodhi assembly constituency.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sukhbir Badal said Capt Harminder Singh had emerged as the consensus candidate of the SAD in Sultanpur Lodhi with the entire rank and file of the party reposing faith in him.
