A surprise visit was made to the District Jail today by Smt. Ramesh Kumari Ld District and Sessions Judge-cum- Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar. Sh. Mohit Bansal, Additional District and Sessions Judge and Ms Himanshi Galhotra, CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar accompanied the Sessions Judge. The facilities and other jail arrangements provided by the jail administration to the prisoners were reviewed. Barracks, Jail Hospital and kitchen were also inspected.
Interaction was also made with inmates of female ward and they were encouraged to lead a peaceful life and engage themselves in vocational courses and other productive activities like stitching, embroidery etc, training of which has already been provided to them. Ld Sessions Judge also reviewed the ongoing campaign launched by NALSA on 25.1.2024 for identification of potential minors in jail premises and their consequential shifting to observation homes. Medical Staff was also directed to ensure proper medical treatment to the inmates and if need be to refer the patients for proper treatment. Records of the Legal Aid Clinic set up in the District Jail was also checked.
While addressing the media, it was informed that such visits will continue in the future also to solve the problems faced by the convicts and under-trial prisoners and to keep the jail administration in order. Sh. Gurnam Lal, Jail Superintendent and Sh. Anmoljit Singh,Deputy Superintendent Jail were also present on this occasion.
