A teenager from Bristol, England lost his eyesight and his ability to listen because he only ate chips, white bread and processed food from his early age. The 19-year-old boy did not like fruits and vegetables from the very beginning. His diet led him to suffer from nutritional optic neuropathy.
Though it is treatable if detected at an early stage, but this teenager’s problem had increased so much that his optic nerve fibres have been damaged permanently.
In the words of the teenager’s mother, her son became a fussy eater when he was about seven and would only eat chips, crisps, sausages, processed ham and white bread. He never ate his home packed lunch since primary school. As he had always been skinny so she couldn’t notice any symptoms till it was too late.
At the age of 14, his sight started getting affected. he had to drop out of college as well as he couldn’t see or hear anything. He has no social life to speak of. Though he is taking vitamin supplements, hi diet still hasn’t changed much even after counselling.
As per the daily, the teen has always been on a diet of fries from the local fish and chip shop, white bread, processed ham slices and sausages. The boy also suffers from vitamin B12 deficiency and other vital vitamins and minerals.
