Skincare tips to beat Diwali pollution

Skincare tips to beat Diwali pollution

Diwali is here! And so is pollution. Learn all about how to prevent your skin from becoming a victim to the pollution monster.

For many people, this is the most dreaded time of the year. This holds true specially for the people of Delhi NCR. Pollution has already covered the Delhi air but the best is yet to happen (sarcasm to be noted). Even though crackers have been banned by most states, disobedient people may still surprise us.

The smog and poor air quality affects our health and skin in a very scary way. Pollution can make our skin sensitive, resulting in burning, stinging, prickling, itching or a tight-feeling along with intolerance to cosmetics and shaving products. Sensitivity can be noticed on face, hands, scalp, feet, etc. Pollution not only damages the skin barrier but also diminishes the skin radiance.

So how do we overcome such a situation? Here’s how:

1. Wear long-sleeved shirts when you go outdoors and get scarves to cover your hair so they do not dry out. Masks are mandatory anyway, so they will protect the face.

2. Keep your carpets, household surfaces and air conditioner filters clean.

3. Apply sunscreen before going out.

4. Shift from morning walks to evening walks.

5. Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week.

6. Pamper your skin with skin-sheet masks, or you can also hydrate your skin overnight with masks to repair the damage. You can also use homemade masks consisting curd, turmeric, etc.

7. Use an air purifier with a humidifier at home and at the workplace to lessen the effects of pollution.

8. Eat green leafy vegetables and drink a lot of fluids rich in antioxidants.

9. Exfoliate your lips with mild sugar scrub; apply lip balm and SPF.

10. Protect your hair with deep conditioning and hot-oil treatment.

11. Eat jaggery and Vitamin C-rich food and fruits.

Living under a pandemic, it is still advised to stay at home as much as possible. But if going out cannot be avoided, these tips will come in handy to you.
