SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with CRPF celebrated Van Mahotsava
JAMMU, JULY 22 2021 To celebrate the festival of tree planting, Division of Agroforestry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu Range celebrated `Van Mahotsav’ at Main Campus, Chatha.
The plantation drive was initiated by Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, chief guest of the occasion, by planting bottle brush sapling. Rajendera Prasad, DIG, Central Reserve Police Force, Jammu Range who was Guest of Honour in the function, planted a sapling of Peela Amaltas. K D Joshi, Commandant, CRPF also grace the occasion by planting bottle brush.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof J P Sharma laid emphasis on planting more trees during annual Van Mahotsav festival to mitigate the climate change effects and protection of the environment. He stressed that only planting would not suffice the progamme but proper aftercare till establishment should be the norm.
Rajendera Prasad, DIG, informed the gathering that this plantation is a part of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) Nationwide Tree Plantation drive towards Green India under the flag of Ministry of Home affairs, GoI. He further told that about one lakh saplings of different tree species shall be planted during the ensuing monsoon season to make the Jammu region greener.
Statutory officers of the University, Officers of the Central Reserve Police Force, Faculty members, Non-teaching staff, CRPF personals, students and residents of university campus planted saplings of Bottle brush, Peela Amaltas, Kaner, Neem, Drek, Senna, Siris, Arjun, Amla etc. on the occasion.
Dr. Jag Pal Sharma, Director Research & Registrar; Dr. S E H Rizvi, Director Education& Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension, Dr. Bikram Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Student Welfare and Rajendera Pal Gupta, Estate Officer also planted saplings of different species on this occasion.
