To provide proprietary rights for slum dwellers in the district under BASERA scheme, the District Administration today directed the MC officials to expedite the process about tendering such rights to slum dwellers before Diwali.

Chairing the second meeting of the SARRC, the Deputy Commissioner Ms.Isha Kalia has proposed a committee comprising officials of Revenue, PUDA and MTP (Municipal Town Planner) to establish the land ownership so that no issue will came up during the transferring of proprietary rights to concerned Slum Dwellers. She said that this team will engage to demark the land with pin point accuracy and use state of the art apparatus such as Drone and other things to determine the total dwelling units and their area.
Ms. Kalia exhorted that the process of survey of beneficiaries should be completed in two weeks so that process about publication of lists and objections could be called in time. She also reviewed the progress made so far under the scheme by various Municipalities. She informed that the Slum Development Programme-‘BASERA’ is the flagship program of Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Punjab is the first state in the country to launch such a scheme for conferring proprietary rights to every slum household occupying state government land in a slum in any urban area on the date of notification of ‘The Punjab Slum Dwellers (Proprietary Rights) Act, 2020’, i.e., 1st April 2020. According to this Act, slum dwellers will get the rights of ownership upto 30 square metre in Municipal Corporations, 45 square metre in Municipal Councils and 60 square metre in Nagar Panchayat area.
Amongst others who were present during the meeting included ADC (Urban Development) Pooja Grewal, MC Commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg, SDM Mohali Harbans Singh and Tehsildar Vikas Sharma.
