A special camp was also organised today at Senior Citizen Home, Sector 15, and Sector 43 where senior citizens were felicitated with an appreciation letter and their contribution in casting their vote during election time was celebrated in a grand way.
Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, stated that during the 2014 and 2019 elections, senior citizens (80+ age group) and voters with disabilities were provided with many facilities in the city. such as wheelchairs at every polling station, ramp facilities, volunteers to assist, and queue-less voting. We have also provided a pick-up and drop facility for senior citizens and voters with disabilities, so that they can come and vote according to their comfort with a queue-less voting facility without standing in a queue. In 2019, nodal officers were appointed at polling stations to felicitate all the senior citizens and voters with disabilities, and the same will be done in all the elections.
Dr. Zade requested all the centurion and senior citizen voters to come out and participate in the electoral process, such as casting their votes and linking voter cards with Aadhaar cards, so that the younger generation can be motivated and exercise the franchise of voting.
