Vigilance Bureau and Advocate General’s Office deliberately setting up legal loopholes for former DGP
AAP demands resignation of Captain, dismissal of Vigilance Chief and AG Punjab
Chandigarh, August 20 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and immediate dismissal of chief secretary Vini Mahajan, Vigilance Chief Director BK Uppal and Advocate General Punjab, Atul Nanda, over the case of former DGP Sumedh Saini.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Friday, senior party leader and MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur said, “The ruling Congress and the entire government machinery is working hard to save Sumedh Saini. Sumedh Saini is being given a ‘safe passage’ to escape by placing innumerable loopholes in every work. The game being played to fool the people involves the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who is the head of Vigilance and Home Department, including the Chief Secretary Punjab, Vigilance Chief, Home Secretary and Advocate General Punjab; who have no right to remain in office.”
Prof Baljinder Kaur said following in the footsteps of the Badals, the Captain government had always shown leniency against Sumedh Saini. She said no concrete case had ever been registered against Sumedh Saini, including in the Bargari and Behbal Kalan cases and only pretence was done by misleading the people and the law. “As many new and old cases have been filed against Sumedh Saini, including sacrilege and Behbal Kalan; if the government would have acted with impartiality and determination, Sumedh Saini would have been behind bars since long. But the Captain government does not want that. These allegations have been confirmed by senior leader of the ruling Congress and Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in a recent tweet,” she said.
Demanding stern action from the ruling Congress against Sumedh Saini in all the old and new cases, Prof Baljinder Kaur said that an influential accused like Sumedh Saini, who escapes from such extremely serious and sensitive cases through misuse of government machinery and legal loopholes; hurts the public’s confidence in the system of government and the rule of law.
