DC BATS FOR MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS UNDER SVP-2022
SAYS, SCHEME AIMS AT RECOGNIZING EXEMPLARY WORK OF SCHOOLS IN THE FIELD OF WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE

As many as 897 schools have registered for the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP)-2022 in Jalandhar of which 617 have successfully submitted their final entries at the portal.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that the SVP has been instituted by the Education Ministry to recognize, inspire and celebrate best sanitation and hygiene practices in schools. He further added that the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, has invited entries from schools across the country for ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2021-2022’. He also mentioned that all types of schools – government, government-aided and private – in both rural and urban areas can register for it.
Throwing a light on the initiative, Mr. Thori said that the purpose of the SVP is to honor schools that have undertaken significant steps towards fulfilling the mandate of the Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign, especially further motivating the exemplary work in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene. He said that the performance of the schools will be evaluated under six sub-categories: Drinking water, toilets, hand-washing with soap, operation and maintenance, capacity building, and COVID-19 preparedness and response. The awards will be given at three levels- District, State/Union Territory and National, he said, adding the participating schools will be accessed via an online portal and mobile app in 6 sub categories, where the system will generate their overall score and rating automatically.
The DC further urged the remaining schools to participate in this competition with full zeal and passion so that best practices adopted by these school managements could get acknowledged at the national arena. He also directed the officials of the education department to coordinate with remaining schools, encouraging them to participate in the scheme.
