On October 10, 2023, Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh hosted an event at Kurukshetra Hostel, aligning with the Swachh Bharat Mission, which was initiated by the Prime Minister on October 2, 2014, to accelerate efforts for universal sanitation coverage in India.
This event began at 4:30 PM, uniting students, professors, and sweepers in a collective drive for cleanliness. They meticulously cleaned assigned areas, and sweepers played an inspiring role, reinforcing the mission’s importance.
Going beyond just cleaning, the event aimed to raise awareness. Participants engaged in conversations with hostel residents, promoting responsible waste disposal and sustainability. This event not only cleaned physical spaces but also fostered a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
In addition to the cleanliness drive, a poster-making competition showcased participants’s creativity in supporting cleanliness and environmental causes. The winner was honored by Ms. Jaimala Gambhir, the O/I of NSS PEC, and awarded certificate and prize. Everyone present was encouraged to continue their environmental commitment.
The event demonstrated the power of collective action and creativity in driving change. It aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission’s objectives and motivated attendees to persist in their efforts for a cleaner, greener India. This event emphasized that small actions, such as litter cleanup and artistic expression, can collectively make a significant impact on building a more sustainable nation.
