Ramping up the vigilance and in effort to curb menance of adulteration of sweets in the coming festive season, Food safety wing of Health Department Mohali conducted suprise check of sweet shops and bakeries in Kharar and Kurali areas. Teams in together seized 10 samples of sweets and challaned 2 bakeries under Section 56 of FSS act for flouting Food safety and standards norms of hygiene and cleanliness.

Under the supervision of District Health officer Dr Subhash Kumar , team lead by Food Safety officer Lovepreet Singh inspected prominent sweets shops on Landran road, civil hospital road, Badala road in Kharar city and seized 5 samples of various sweet items. Taking a strict notice One bakery was challaned for preparing bakery items under unhygienic and unsanitary conditions. During inspection team confiscated approx 100 packets stock of stale bakery items which were destroyed on the spot by the officer. Addressing the media Food Safety officer Mr Lovepreet Singh informed that under the Mission Tandrust of Punjab Government necessary actions are being taken to curb adulteration in kharar sub-division through random sampling and surprise inspections.
Meanwhile Food safety officer Anil kumar verma conducted random inspections in Kurali, Khizrabad and seized sample of kalakand, milk cake and other sweets. Here also 1 food business operator was challaned under section 56 of Food safety and standards act.
In a joint statement both officers informed that instructions are being given to all sweet shops owner to use only FSSAI permitted colour in preparation of sweets items and maintain Good Hygiene Practices in manufacturing of food articles. Instructions regarding display of ” use of date” as per FSSAI guidelines were also given.
