SAS Nagar, January 8, 2024

Gearing up for the consumption of crop residue through specially designed boilers in industries, the district administration of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has started exercises from now to add more capacity to increase it to Four Lakh MT per annum.
Divulging  details, the Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Aashika Jain said that as the district has its own generation of crop residue 1.98 Lakh MT per annum, but we are thinking about other nearby districts too. With the addition of the proposed 03 lakh Metric Tonnes by the coming Paddy Harvesting Season, we would be able to use the more crop residue (paddy stubble) as biofuel, added Mrs Jain.
Reviewing the existing capacity that includes five units for making a contribution to one lakh metric tonnes per annum, two more stakeholders Chandigarh Distillaries and Nahar Industries have been working on the installation of paddy stubble fuel-based boilers that will add the existing capacity to four lakh MT per annum in the district, said DC Jain.
Apart from that to supply stubble-based pallets to Brick Kilns, a new unit is upcoming in the district with a capacity of 3300 MT per annum shortly, said the Deputy Commissioner.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to cope with the shortage of bailers as per the final capacity of the boiler units, the district would seek a supply of an appropriate number of bailer machines. She asked the Agricultural and Farmers’ Welfare Department and ADC (Rural Development) to prepare the estimated number of bailers; we need for the coming paddy season. She said that though the agricultural area in the district is less as compared to other districts but we have consumption capacity more in the state, so our major thrust should be on arranging the requisite machinery in time.
Assuring the Industrial representatives who were in the process of installation of stubble based boilers, the Deputy Commissioner said that the District administration is already in the process of arranging land banks for the storage of stubble stock besides the early disposal of subsidy announced by the state for promoting stubble based boilers in industries.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that to check the reasons behind the burning of stubble, she will be visiting the villages having the highest burning cases and boost the others having zero burning cases in the coming days.
