The Parvadhiraj Paryushan Mahaparv Navahik program commenced at Anuvrat Ground, Sector 24C, where all four communities of Punjab united to celebrate this sacred occasion. The event, organized by the Sakal Jain Samaj, honored His Excellency, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, for his dedication to Jain principles. In his address, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to be part of this significant event and to be in the company of revered saints.
He shared insights from his experiences in Mewar and Udaipur, emphasizing the importance of determination and introspection in personal growth. “If we really want to become something, we must look inside, not outside,” he remarked, highlighting the value of inner strength and self-discipline. Sh. Kataria reflected on the 2600-year-old history of Jainism, noting its unique philosophy where individuals often renounce worldly possessions in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment. He emphasized, “Salvation can be achieved only in the human body,” stressing the significance of human life in attaining moksha. The Governor also discussed the Chaturmas festival, a period of deep religious observance, and underscored the importance of adhering to the five vows central to Jain teachings.
He encouraged the audience to memorize and recite the Anuvrat song written by Acharya Tulsi as a daily spiritual practice. Reflecting on his personal life, Sh. Kataria credited his success to the values instilled by his family and his commitment to living free from any form of addiction. He cited the example of Panna Lal Ji, who vowed to live his life on buttermilk and roti, as an illustration of self-discipline. Sh. Kataria concluded by expressing his deep respect for saints, acknowledging their role in guiding him to his position as Governor. He reassured the audience of his ongoing commitment to upholding the honor and respect of all saints.
