Chandigarh: 24 August : The Istri Akali Dal in a pioneer initiative will be setting up sports academies providing world class coaching to girls to compete at national and International level. Said Bibi Jagir kaur here today
To encourage girls in sports an high powered committee of eminent players and former awardee women from different fields of sports will be constituted next week. The state will be divided into zones and sports academies will be set up where free schooling, diet and world class coaching in the selected field of the sport will be imparted. Said the president of the women wing of the SAD.
The glory of Punjab in sports is a project which will be pursued diligently by the Istri Akali Dal for which trials will be held in the different zones in the state . Bibi Jagir kaur said that professional coaches will monitor these trails and selected girl’s will be provided free education, diet and training by top class coaches will be given so that an impressive pool of girls can compete in sports at national and international level. “ we were pioneers in hockey” but unfortunately we are not producing the right talent for competing at International level. Its not that talent is not available its that the girls of the state are not being provide requisite support system for them to excel in sports.
