Chandigarh, October 16 :- Haryana State Election Commissioner, Sh. Dhanpat Singh said that the tenure of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zilla Parishads will remain the same for five years as before.

A fake letter is being spread on social media claiming that the tenure of PRIs will be 3 years. The commission has not issued any such letter in this regard, it is completely fake information, said Dhanpat Singh.

He said that some mischievous people have drafted a fake letter in the name of the State Election Commission and made it viral on social media. In this letter, the tenure of PRIs has been reduced to 3 years.

Sh. Dhanpat Singh further clarified that there is no change in the tenure of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zilla Parishad members.

The election of Sarpanch, Panch, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad members will be held on the fixed dates announced by the State Election Commission, informed the State Election Commissioner.

He further clarified that action would also be taken against those spreading fake information regarding the State Election Commission on social media. The Commission has taken immediate cognizance in this regard, said Sh. Dhanpat Singh.

He has also urged to the general public not to believe any such rumours and should get factual  information related to Panchayati Raj Institutions from the official website of the State Election Commission https://secharyana.gov.in
