Coronavirus started spreading in India in March and since then it has become difficult to control it’s spread. Measures have been taken by the government to contain the spread but it has affected the residents of India adversely. This is because everything has come to a halt and it is quite uncertain what the future holds for us. The uncertainty of future is causing depression and anxiety among several Indians. This is accompanied by stress of lack of financial resources.
Recently, a research was conducted by the 7th Fold which revealed that almost 36% of Indian employees are facing mental health problems due to the pandemic.
Stress can take a toll on our life and affect our day to day lifestyle. It can also lead to a number of physical problems like increased blood pressure and risk of heart attack. When the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, increases in our body, we find ways to cope with the stress but in the long run it can backfire and we could feel more depressed. Thus, it is essential to keep a check on our stress levels for our overall well being.
Plenty of people have lost their jobs due to the degrading economy. Some have no money to sustains themselves. It is also very unclear if there would be any jobs for the people next year. All these uncertainties have led to increased cases of suicide in India. The government is trying it’s best to provide employment and financial help to people but it is still a long way to go until the situation normalizes. The research showed that 36% employees were constantly worried as they had not received their salaries since months and their future is uncertain too.
