Universities to work on Innovation, Incubation, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’ : Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya

Chandigarh, 21 April – Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya today urged the Universities to pay special attention to Innovation, Incubation, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and said that these are the areas where Universities should work.

Shri Dattatraya, who is also the Chancellor of JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, was presiding over the 10th Meeting of University Court held at the University campus in Faridabad, here today. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.K. Tomar, Registrar Dr. S.K. Garg, all deans, chairperson and members of the University Court were present in the meeting.

The Governor said that education should be practical oriented and the Universities should focus on emerging technologies and skill development of the youth. He said that Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity are the emerging areas where the focus needs to be given.

He also called upon the universities to promote entrepreneurial skills among the students and said that fresh ideas should emerge from the students. He said that the University should encourage 30 to 40 percent of students to pursue entrepreneurship as a career instead of employment. He also asked the Universities to increase their budgetary allocation in research and innovation activities.

Addressing the senior functionaries of the University, the Governor of Haryana asked to submit an assessment report on the students belonging to the weaker sections of society including SC/ST and OBC. He said that there may be students who come from weaker sections or rural backgrounds and lag behind in studies due to inferiority complex. Such students require special attention. He also added that students have lost two precious years in the corona pandemic. The university should also plan to cover those years by conducting special remedial classes. On which, Vice-Chancellor Prof. SK Tomar apprised the Governor that the University is already conducting special remedial classes for all students from time to time.

The Governor asked the University to conduct assessment of such students and submit a report on what the University can do for such students. He also sought a report on emerging technologies for future employment. He said there are emerging sectors where market demand exists but skill is lacking. He said that results are expected from universities and such results should be visible on the ground. The Governor also suggested the University to take advantage of its location in Faridabad which is an industrial hub and said that the University should promote Industry linkage.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor Prof. SK Tomar gave a brief progress report on the academic growth of the University and apprised that the University has a special focus on research and development activities. He also informed that the University has plans to introduce skill oriented minor degree programs along-with major degrees. Along with this, the university also plans to start courses like anti-drone technology and social harmony from the next session.

In the meeting, the Annual Report and Annual Account of the year 2020-21, and budget estimates for the year 2022-23 were approved by the University Court. Registrar Dr. S.K. Garg proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Earlier, Shri Dattatraya was given a warm welcome by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Tomar and Registrar Dr. S.K. Garg.

The Governor also received the ceremonial guard of honour by the District Police Administration at the University premise.
