Assess losses due to heavy rains, directs for restoration of irrigation facilities
KUPWARA, JUNE 4, 2021: The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din and Vice Chairman (VC), District Development Council (DDC) Kupwara, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir today visited various areas of Lolab and Chowkibal to assess the losses caused to irrigation khuls, standing vegetable crops, paddy saplings and roads due to yesterday’s heavy rains and flash floods.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner and the VC visited Cheepora, Maidanpora and Kuligam and inspected the irrigation khul which was damaged due to heavy rains yesterday. Both the dignitaries walked long distances across the khul and interacted with the farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to immediately repair the bund of the irrigation khul so that farmers do not face any inconvenience for want of irrigation facility.
The team visited Khumriyal and inspected the Nallah near the village.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed the District Mineral Officer to ensure strict vigil of the mining activity in the area. He also directed the concerned officer to demarcate the state land available in the village for playfield.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited Chowkibal areas to assess the losses due to heavy rains. He directed the concerned officers for immediate restoration of irrigation facilities in the area.
He also took stock of the protection bund of a Masjid and culvert on Budnamal road at Reddi. He directed for immediate repairs to the damaged assets to prevent any further damage to local people.
