The ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashal’ (Victory Flame), to commemorate 50 years of decisive victory of Indian Armed Forces in 1971 Indo-Pak War reached Patiala on 20 November 21.Honourable Prime Minister of India, ShriNarendraModi had handed over four Victory Flames to the veterans of 1971 Indo-Pak War at National War Memorial at New Delhi on 16 Dec 2020.
The Victory Flame was received by GOC, AirawatDivision at grand ceremony held at Yadavindra Services Officers Institute (YSOI), Patiala. The GOC, AirawatDivision while addressing the media persons informed thatAirawatDiv had played significant role in the Western theatre during the 1971 Indo Pak-War.He informed the media persons that the Victory Flame will travel to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on its way back to New Delhi.
A grand reception for the flame was organized at the YSOI under the aegis of Airawat Division. Prominent military dignitaries from three services and other civil dignitaries were present during the occasion. GOC, Airawat Division felicitated gallantry awardees of the 1971 war during the ceremony. 95 veterans attended the function including 17 Veer Naris, who were also felicitated during the function. Among the veterans present were 20 gallantry awardees who also shared his experiences of the war with the audience. 1
While addressing the gathering, GOC, Airawat Division paid homage to all the soldiers who had fought and made supreme sacrifice for the nation and thanked all the veterans present. He said that the Indian Army continues to move forward with the ethos of Honour, Valour and Tradition set forth over a period of time. He concluded by saying that the Indian Army is always prepared and ready to defend the nation and give a befitting reply to any adversary.
The celebration was highlighted by band performance and cultural program. Students of various schools and colleges participated in the cultural program. During the stay of Victory Flame at Patiala, various ceremonies and events have been organized at Patiala, this include The Swarnim Fifty Cycle rally originating from Nabha to Patiala on 24 November 2021 and showcasing Victory Flame in the military station, Patialato exhort all to reminisce the bravery and sacrifice of the martyred soldiers.
