Vijai Vardhan directs Administrative Secretaries to prepare an action plan for the implementation of ‘Catch the rain, Where it falls, When it falls’
Chandigarh, March 17: Haryana Chief Secretary, Vijai Vardhan has directed the Administrative Secretaries of all the departments and Deputy Commissioners to prepare an action plan for the implementation of nationwide campaign ‘Catch the rain, Where it falls, When it falls’ that will be launched on the ocassion of World Water Day on March 22, 2021 by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for water conservation.
The Chief Secretary was presiding over the review meeting of the concerned officers through video conferencing today.
During the meeting the Chief Secretary said that the Prime Minister will address the District Magistrates and Sarpanches of other states of the country except the five states where assembly elections are being held. After this, the officers will organize gram sabha meetings in panchayats to help awaken the social consciousness towards water conservation. He said that Water Centres will be set up in every district and along with this roof top water harvesting system will be installed on the roofs of all government buildings, where rain water will be stored and used.
Vijai Vardhan said that for this, financial assistance will be provided by the Union Government to every district of the state. Water courses, ponds and check dams of the district will be cleaned and integrated water sheds will also be renovated. For this, the officers should prepare the road map of their respective districts. He directed the officers to keep in constant contact with Haryana Space Applications Centre, Hisar for geo-tagging of water courses.
During the meeting, a three-member committee was constituted by the Chief Secretary for the successful implementation of this mission, including Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department, Sh. SN Roy, Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, Amit Jha, and Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Devender Singh. Along with monitoring the water conservation mission, this committee will also nominate the nodal officers of their respective departments at the district level and block level.
It was also informed during the meeting that the nationwide campaign ‘Catch the Rain, Where it falls, When it falls’ will run till November, 2021. Apart from this, the Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority is also running a programme to treat the water of 877 ponds and use it for irrigation and other means.
On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Climate Change Department, Dheera Khandelwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (Building and Roads) Department, Alok Nigam, Additional Chief Secretary, Mining and Geology Department, TC Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, TVSN Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, School Education Department, Dr. Mahavir Singh, OSD, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Sumita Mishra, Principal Secretary, Forests and Wildlife Department Dr. G. Anupama, Commissioner and Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Dr. Amit Agrawal, among other senior officers were also present.
