Leads the district level Dharna by congress party in landra

Mohali/Chandigarh, December 8-

President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Mr Sunil Jakhar today said that virus of arrogance amongst those in power at centre was a major threat for the democracy in the country.

Addressing the district level dharnas organised by the Congress party to protest against the anti-farmers agriculture bills here today, the President of Punjab Congress said that the very foundation of democracy was a government elected by people and which was sensitive to the demands and expectations of the people. However, he said that the BJP government at centre was securing the interests of corporates rather than paying heed towards people. Mr Jakhar said that above all this government was not ready to listen to the people, which was very dangerous for the democracy.

Asserting that authoritarianism has no place in democracy, the President of Punjab Congress said that though the Prime Minister was repeatedly saying that the new bills would abolish middleman in agriculture but as a fact of matter the Union government was itself acting as intermediate of big corporates for implementing these black laws. Mr Jakhar said that Punjabis were synonyms of revolution as they have always stood against any sort of oppression, tyranny and injustice adding that this time also the farmers of Punjab have played a vital role in making the entire country aware against the demerits of these laws.

Slamming the forces which were labelling the farmers as terrorists, the President of Punjab Congress said that while the farmers were protesting for their rights at Delhi their soldier sons were busy safeguarding the borders of the country. He said that if the BJP leadership had read the history of the country and Punjab then they would have never issued such cheap statements.

Speaking in the occasion Health and Family welfare Minister Punjab Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu said that the farmer of the state was fighting the war of country m. He said that if these black laws were implemented then not only farmers but all the sections of society would be adversely affected.
