DEPARTMENT GIVES PROMOTION OF OVER 100 OFFICERS/OFFICIALS AMID LOCKDOWN
ALSO BRINGS REVOLUTION FOR IRRIGATION SYSTEM BY CLEANING OF DRAINS AND MINORS
Chandigarh, August 1: Despite a months-long lockdown, the Punjab Water Resource Department has made over 100 promotions of the officers/officials of Group A, B and C during the difficult times of COVID-19 pandemic.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson said that with the concerted efforts of Water Resources Minister Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria a total of 104 officers/staff had been promoted during curfew and lockdown. Many of these officers were on the verge of retirement and some are retiring in the near future.
Giving details, the spokesperson said that 5 Supervising Engineers (SE) had been promoted as Chief Engineers while 25 Executive Engineers as Supervising Engineers. Similarly 43 JEs/ Assistant Engineers have been promoted as Sub Divisional Officers (SDOs) and 31 Revenue Clerks / Chief Revenue Clerks as District Collectors (Jilhedaar) . He said that several Jilhedaar have already started training, which would give further impetus and accelerated the pace of the functioning of the department.
The work done by the staff/officers of the department during curfew and lockdown has been lauded many times by the Water Resources Minister.
Pertinently, the Water Resources Department is very important for the farmers of Punjab and as per the directions of the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, the department has done exemplary work during the lockdown. Even during the lockdown, the officers/staff of the department were engaged in cleaning of drains and minors. Apart from this the officers/ staff of Water Resources Department have provided Rs. 1.60 crore as assistance to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to fight the corona virus. Likewise, the work at the Shahpurkandi Dam project was in full swing despite restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic. He said that the Water Resources Department had resumed the construction work of Shahpurkandi Dam project on April 29, 2020, ensuring all the safety measures mentioned under ‘Mission Fateh’ to prevent Covid-19. He said that this project is expected to start power generation by August 2023, which would further improve the irrigation system and environment friendly power generation in the state.
