DC reviews drive to combat water and vector borne diseases

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Friday stated that to contain the water and vector borne diseases, aggressive water sampling is being carried out in Ludhiana.In a meeting to assess the on-going efforts to combat water-vector borne diseases, Sawhney told that MC and health teams have been taking samples of drinking water in a proactive manner from educational institutions, residential colonies, business establishments etc where cases of water borne diseases have been recorded earlier as well as other areas of the district.
She mentioned that Ludhiana is a district where the highest samples have been taken throughout Punjab. She said that adopting a proactive approach, the District Administration had ordered water sampling a month ago itself so that corrective measures can be taken in advance.
She also spoke about 100% pre-monsoon water sampling already taken place. She assured the residents that to ensure there is no outbreak of water and vector borne diseases, she is personally reviewing the measures on a weekly basis.
The DC also disclosed that administration has already issued helpline numbers for both urban and rural areas of the district. For rural areas, individuals can call the toll-free number 18001802468 to report any problems related to drinking water contamination. In urban areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, residents can contact 0161-2749120, and for areas governed by Municipal Councils, the number to report water contamination is 0161-2920012.
The Deputy Commissioner also told that fogging is also being conducted in high-risk areas and close surveillance is being kept. Besides, chlorination of all the water supplies being run by MC and the water supply department is being done regularly.
