Chandigarh, April 5 – Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. J.P. Dalal said that the issue regarding Chandigarh is a sensitive one and is a matter of deep concern. The sentiments of the people of Haryana have been hurt due to the resolution passed by Punjab.
Sh. Dalal was addressing the members of the House in a Special Session called by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
He said that the 91-km long SYL Canal was completed in the year 1980 but the elected public representatives of Punjab have always challenged the system.
The Agriculture Minister said that talks have been on with regard to giving 3.5 MAF of water to Haryana and the water that the State is getting from Bhakra is also decreasing continuously. He said that there could be a water crisis in the near future.
Sh. Dalal emphasized that we should not only ask for SYL water but also seek compensation from Punjab for using this water for so many days. He said that all the people of Haryana should unite in this cause.
