Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab’s Kisan Wing State President and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan lashed out at Channi government and asked them to dismiss the police cases registered against farmers during their agitation against anti-farm laws as well as cases related to straw burning. “Why is there a reluctance to issue an immediate notification or written order to dismiss these cases?” asked Sandhwan.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters on Monday, MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the farmers of Punjab had started an agitation against the imposition of anti-farm laws introduced by the Modi government at the Center. He said that despite the announcements of the government, the cases registered against the farmers have not been dismissed. Sandhwan said that Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, popularly known as ‘Mr. Announcer’ had also announced in public and during meetings with the farmers that the Punjab government would dismiss all the police cases against the farmers registered during agitation as well as in cases of stubble burning, but there is no official notification from their side stating the same.
Mr. Sandhwan alleged that the truth of the announcements made by the Chief Minister Announcer had not been made transparent to the people through any official notification, whether the cases registered by the Punjab Police against the farmers had been dismissed or not. Therefore, it is imperative that the Channi government should immediately issue a notification for dismissal of police cases registered against the farmers.
Criticizing the Narendra Modi government, Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar left this matter saying that it was under the jurisdiction of the states and the state governments would take decisions in this regard. He said that although the police of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are under the control of their state governments, but the police of Delhi is under the control of Union Home Ministry i.e. Modi government.
Therefore, the Central Government should immediately issue a notification to withdraw the cases registered against the farmers and their supporters in Delhi and the state governments should also issue a letter to do so. Sandhwan said that like the BJP government, the intentions of the Channi government towards the farmers were not good as they all are just puppets of Modi. Sandhwan said that such an attitude of the state governments towards Annadatas would not be tolerated by the farmers and neither would by the Aam Aadmi Party. Therefore immediate orders should be issued to dismiss all the police cases against the farmers.
