WITH TIME THE PROBLEM OF U.T.I IS INCREASING IN CHILDREN

Urinary tract infection is increasing in children and the unfortunate thing is that many parents are not aware of the condition and symptoms until it becomes severe.

What Is UTI?

Bacteria entering the urethra exit during urination. If the bacteria do not exit, it can start growing within the urinary tract and even reach other nearby organs of the body such as the kidney, bladder and uterus, which can cause infection. The two most common types of UTIs that can affect children are kidney infections and bladder infections.

When UTI affects the bladder, it is called cystitis. When the infection passes from the bladder to the kidneys, it is called pyelonephritis.

Symptoms Of UTI In Children

UTI symptoms are easy to see in older children but it can be quite challenging to see symptoms in younger children. Because young children are not able to explain their problems clearly, parents may have to examine the symptoms themselves to find out what is wrong.

Babies may have symptoms such as pimples, pain while urinating, loss of appetite or fever.

Other symptoms of UTI include

Heartburn when baby passes urine
Blurred or foul urine
Need to urinate immediately
Fever
Diarrhoea
Nausea

If you see any of the above symptoms or combination of symptoms, you should immediately go to the doctor.

UTI Treatment

Treatment for UTI includes consuming antibiotics and drinking lots of liquid. Using a clean bathroom and treating constipation can also help prevent another UTI.

Make sure that your child completes an antibiotic course, even if they start feeling better after a dose or two. Intercepting can make the germs more resistant to antibiotics and cause another infection. Check with your doctor if symptoms do not improve until 3 days after the antibiotic. As your child grows older, let him learn good bathroom habits. Tell them that it is important to go to the bathroom as soon as they feel the urge and do not hold it. Instruct girls to wipe from front to back, this helps to prevent bacteria from entering the urinary tract and vagina.Make them wear cotton undergarments for better airflow. Make them drink lots of water.
