Youth must turn into agents of change by taking lead in following road safety rules- Speakers at Seminar by National Road Safety Council

Inter college declamation contest on road safety held in Government College for Women

Ludhiana, October 12 :-  

The experts at seminar organized by National Road Safety Council, North Zone called upon youth to become agents of change and create awareness on importance of road safety rules to save previous lives.

Chairman National Road Safety Council, North Zone DS Bains IAS (Retd), Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik and Commissioner of Police Dr Kaustubh Sharma and other Road safety experts highlighted the need for citizens to obey the traffic rules to make roads safe.

They gave message that road safety could be achieved with the help of youth who had the power to bring change in the society. They added that compliance and enforcement of traffic rules could also minimize the road accidents.

Chairman DS Bains spoke about fastening of rear seat belt in four wheelers by occupants and exampled the recent death of Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of the Tata Group in road crash. He said that passengers in the back seat must fasten seat belts while driving.

Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik also shared personal experience of road accident and getting injured for not wearing rear seat belt. She said that she had to undergo surgery in this accident and appealed the youth to be responsible while driving by wearing safety headgear, fastening seat belts and particularly avoid rash driving.

Commissioner of Police Dr Kaustubh Sharma also detailed the gathering about traffic norms and said majority of deaths road mishaps could be prevented by avoiding traffic violations including over-speeding, non-wearing of helmet, drunk driving and etc.

Later, an inter college declamation contest on road safety was also held in Government College for Women and students were also awarded.

Prominent among present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Bains, RTA Secretary NS Dhaliwal and others.
