Chandigarh, June 12: – In order to cater to the need of skilled professionals for the social welfare sector, J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad has decided to introduce a Bachelor’s Degree Course in Social Work from the ensuing academic session.
While giving information to this effect, an official spokesman of the University said that three year bachelor’s degree in social work is being started with an intake of 45 seats. Apart from basic content of the programme, the course has been designed to give an insight of latest computing technologies like Data Science, he added.
He said that in line with the provisions of National Education Policy 2020, the University has given special focus on Liberal Arts courses. A liberal arts degree prepares students for a life of learning and it emphasizes skills like critical thinking, communication, creative problem solving, self-expression, innovative research, and lifelong learning that can lead to a great career and a well-lived life, he added.
He said that the University has been taking various initiatives from time to time to inspire the spirit of social concern among the students and now it has been decided to start courses on social work.
He further said that social workers play an important role in addressing various social problems; therefore, it has a good scope as a career. Previously, the University was already offering courses like BA and MA in Journalism and Mass Communication, MA in English and B.Sc. in Multimedia and Animation under the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Media Studies (FLAMS).
