Today, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gained impetus throughout Punjab, including Majha, when former Punjab Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan joined AAP along with his family and associates. The entire leadership of Punjan, including the party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab President Bhagwant Mann, formally inducted and welcomed Sewa Singh Sekhwan and his son Jagroop Singh Sekhwan into the party along with their supporters.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with Jarnail Singh, in-charge Punjab affairs and Raghav Chadha, co-in-charge arrived at Amritsar airport from Delhi on Thursday morning and reached Sewa Singh Sekhwan’s house in village Sekhwan in Gurdaspur district in a convoy consisting of Punjab leaders including State president Bhagwant Mann, where he inquired about well being of Jathedar Sekhwan and inducted the Sekhwan family in the party.
Arvind Kejriwal said, “Sewa Singh Sekhwan and his family have made a great contribution in the development of Punjab. Sewa Singh Sekhwan is our elder and we have come to seek his blessings. We want Jathedar Sekhwan to continue to guide us.
Kejriwal further said that he did not come to indulge in politics rather we have a mission to ensure that the rich and the poor get good medical treatment, children get quality education, cheap and uninterrupted electricity and other facilities. Every citizen must get freedom from corruption and mafia rule. He said that with Sewa Singh Sekhwan joining the AAP family, huis mission would get a major momentum.
Replying to a question, Arvind Kejriwal said, “Punjab was once a number one state in the country. Therefore, we will re-create a Punjab of peace, harmony and brotherhood. Punjab is a border state and nobody should make divisive statements here because from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, India is one.
Welcoming AAP supremo Kejriwal on the occasion, Jathedar Sewa Singh Sekhwan said, the rest of my life is dedicated to AAP and Kejriwal. I will do whatever I can for the Aam Aadmi Party in any form, ”he said, adding that he was happy that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had come to inquire about his condition. Expressing his displeasure, Sekhwan said, “I have spent most of my life in the service of the Shiromani Akali Dal, but none of my old colleagues have come to see me till date.”
For the box – On his return to Delhi after visiting village Sekhwan, Arvind Kejriwal held a special meeting with Punjab leaders at a guest house in Amritsar. The meeting was attended by Punjab Party President Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, Incharge of Punjab Affairs Jarnail Singh, Co-Incharge Raghav Chadha, Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Sarabjit Kaur Manunke, Principal Budhram, Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Meet Hayer, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Jai Singh Rori, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Master Baldev Singh, Amarjit Singh Sandoya, State General Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat and Secretary Gagandeep Singh Chadha.
