It is the Responsibility of All of Us to Strengthen Democracy: CM Rajasthan
Jaipur, 15 August, 2020. Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot said that many challenges came before the country after it achieved independence and it kept moving ahead facing all these challenges as it had very strong roots of democracy. He said that the great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Nehru, Sardar Patel, Dr Ambedkar and Maulana Azad strengthened this democracy. Governments kept coming and going, but democracy continued in the country. “Today, it is the responsibility of all of us to keep this democracy strong. The country will survive only if democracy is safe,” he said.
Shri Gehlot was addressing the State-level function at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on the occasion of 74th Independence Day on Saturday. After hoisting the national flag during the event, the CM also inspected the parade.
The Chief Minister said that when the country got freedom it had a lack of basic facilities such as electricity, water, road, health and education. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country, with his farsightedness, laid very strong foundation to make India self-dependent. He built big dams and set up many factories to give pace to industrial development. High-level institutions such as AIIMS, ISRO, IIT etc were established. Reputation of India rose because of the policies and vision of the visionary leaders such as Smt. Indira Gandhi, Shri Rajiv Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh and our country had reached this stage of development, he added.
Shri Gehlot said, “The people of different religions, sects and castes live in this country. Different languages are spoken. Despite much diversity, our leaders kept this country united and undivided by respecting all religions and practicing socialism and secularism.” Adopting these basic principles of equality and integrity, the countrymen gave a befitting reply to the forces trying to spread hatred in the name of religion and caste and ensured that the peace prevailed in the society, he added.
The Chief Minister said that the rights-based era of governance started in the country at the time of the UPA government. The people of the country got Food Security, Right to Information, Education and Employment through various Acts such as the MGNREGA. Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi brought the Information Technology revolution in the country as a result of which these days we could see a mobile phone in every hand and people receive and share information in the entire country and the world while sitting home. All important public services are being provided in villages through Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendras using the IT.
Shri Gehlot said that Rajasthan has provided relief to the general public through excellent management during this period of COVID-19. It has been the result of vigilance, alertness and support of the people that Rajasthan is in better position in different parameters in fight against corona virus spread. The Government left no stone unturned to provide relief to the needy sections. The state government had spent Rs. 6000 crore to give support to the poor, helpless, destitutes and needy families during the tough time of corona pandemic.
On this occasion, the CM remembered martyrs, freedom fighters and brave soldiers of the country, who laid their lives protecting the nation and said that their sacrifice would never be forgotten.
During the event, the Army and the Central Police Bands and the folk artists gave performances. Anganwari workers, Nursing staff, Doctors, Sanitation workers and Policemen, who fought as corona warriors sang the song ‘Hum Honge Kamyaab’. The function concluded with the National Anthem. Members of the State Council of Ministers, MLAs, other public representatives, officers, employees and other eminent people were present in the programme.
