In the Himalayan region, extensive unspoiled landscapes foster a diverse range of medicinal herbs. Over centuries, local communities have depended on these herbs not just for their curative attributes but also for their capacity to extend life. Here, we highlight five traditional Himalayan herbs believed to support a lengthier and healthier existence.
- Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus): Shatavari addresses conditions linked to hormonal imbalances such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and infertility. It stimulates prolactin production, crucial for breastfeeding. Shatavari powder can be consumed with honey and milk.
- Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): Often termed the “Indian Ginseng,” Ashwagandha is renowned for its adaptogenic properties. It is thought to diminish stress, enhance immunity, and contribute to overall vitality, fostering a longer and healthier life. Consumption with warm milk or ghee is recommended.
- Guggul (Commiphora wightii): Guggul, a resin from the mukul myrrh tree, has been utilized in Ayurveda for its cholesterol-lowering and anti-inflammatory characteristics. Ingesting one-fourth tablespoon with lukewarm water in the morning is advised.
