Is fever-check enough to detect Covid-19 infection?

CHANDIGARH

One of the unmistakable indications of coronavirus infection is a fever. In more than half of COVID positive cases, the person develops a fever or chill in the early stages, which aids in determining the infectious disease’s beginning. It is one of the reasons why a temperature check system has been installed in business establishments to verify people affected by the virus and prevent them from spreading it. However, just checking temperature can be problematic in a variety of situations, particularly in asymptomatic patients.

Is a fever check sufficient protection against COVID-19?

One of the most common signs of coronavirus is a rise in body temperature. However, it is not COVID-19’s only symptom. Early signs such as a runny nose, headaches, lethargy, and a sore throat might be difficult to identify. Only checking the temperature and separating people depending on it could give the impression of safety. It’s only useful if the person is experiencing symptoms. There could be multiple people who are contagious despite not having a fever.

In the case of the omicron, fever

The mild symptoms of the Omicron variety are similar to those of a regular cold. Furthermore, fever is rarely the first indication of omicron. According to a study conducted, runny nose, headache, weariness, and sneezing are some of the most typical early symptoms of mutant variants. A runny nose was reported by 73% of those infected with the omicron type. Sixty-eight per cent felt a headache, 64 percent were tired, and 60 percent had sneezing problems. Most noteworthy, both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients experienced identical symptoms.

As loss of smell is another common symptom of this contagious disease, temperature checks failed to reveal COVID-19 infection in many cases, according to the researchers.

How can you protect yourself?

We are amid a pandemic, and no one knows how long we will be able to cope. Each person must take responsibility and take precautions to reduce the risk of infection. Isolate yourself if you have come into touch with somebody who has tested positive or if you are experiencing any symptoms. To avoid getting the virus, wash your hands frequently, wear a mask at all times, and keep a 6-foot distance from people.
