Leucorrhoea, commonly known as Likoria, is a medical disorder that causes a yellowish or whitish vaginal discharge in women. This discharge is often a thick inconsistency.
Most women are concerned by this consistency, believing they are suffering from sickness when, in fact, it is usually only a vaginal infection.
When does it occur?
Vaginal discharge occurs soon before the start of a woman’s menstrual cycle or when she is sexually excited. Some vaginal discharge is beneficial, acting as natural vaginal lubrication.
Is Leucorrhoea a common disease?
It’s perfectly usual to get Leucorrhoea. Symptoms of Leucorrhoea in women can occur during pregnancy, when their menstruation is about to start, when the female genitals are infected, and when they have hormonal irregularities.
There are 3 kinds of leucorrhoea that develop in women.
Inflammatory Leucorrhoea
It is the most common type of leucorrhoea. The vaginal mucus becomes irritated in this type of Leucorrhoea, resulting in yellowish colour and odour in your vaginal discharge, which is usually a sign of an organic bacterial infection.
Leucorrhoea parasitic
The presence of trichomonas vaginalis, a protozoan parasite, causes this kind of Leucorrhoea, which causes extreme vaginal itching and thick, yellow vaginal discharge.
Leucorrhoea Physiological
This form of leucorrhoea isn’t a big deal. It is caused by increased blood flow to the vaginal area as a result of increased oestrogen levels in the body. It usually occurs during the pregnancy stage.
Causes of Leucorrhoea
The following are the most common causes of Leucorrhea:
- Pregnancy, menstruation or premenstrual periods, and uterine congestion are all common causes of uterine congestion.
- Inflammation of the genitals in women.
- Infections and itching are formed by chemical contraceptives, intrauterine devices, and other mechanical reasons.
- Stress, anxiety, sexual tension, and other mental health issues are also the main causes of this.
- Hormonal discord.
- Unhealthy eating habits and excessive sedative usage.
The following are some of the symptoms of Leucorrhea:
- In the vulva, there is itching.
- The vulva is in excruciating pain.
- Abnormal vaginal discharge.
- Discharge with an unpleasant odour.
- The discharge is thick and yellow.
- Between two menstrual cycles, there is vaginal bleeding.
- A lower abdominal ache is unbearable.
- Intercourse that hurts or soreness after intercourse.
- Bleeding during or after sexual activity.
- Urination is excruciatingly painful.
- Skin development around the vaginal area is abnormal.
- Swelling of the vaginal area.
- Pain in the lower back
