The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised an expert talk on the topic ‘Process of Innovation Development and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Commercialism of Lab Technologies and Tech-Transfer’. The resource person for the talk was Prof. Rupinder Tewari, IPR-Chair Professor, Founder Chairperson, Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. A total of 127 students and faculty members attended the event. The session was an endeavour to acquaint the participants with Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and their commercialisation. Various types of IPRs such as patents, trademarks, copyright, industrial design, geographical indication,etc., history of IPRs and their significance was explained in detail by the resource person through various examples. The role of IPRs in the innovation ecosystem, and in adding economic value and ensuring idea protection was discussed during the session. Finally, the expert elaborated on numerous leading innovative rights. The participants found the session very interesting and informative.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the consistent efforts of MCM IIC directed towards systematic promotion of culture of innovation among students. She added that development of a robust innovation ecosystem is necessary for realisation of the goal of a self-reliant India.
