Dr. BR World Anatomy Day was celebrated last evening at Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mohali. This World Organ Day celebrated under the patronage of Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director-Principal, Dr. BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mohali the Department of Anatomy in collaboration with the Society of Human Anatomists and Researchers
Giving more information, Director-Principal, Dr. BR Dr. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mohali. Bhavneet Bharti said that the World Organ Day declared by the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) in honor of the 16th century Belgian physician and writer Andreas Vesselius holds special significance in our lives. She explained that the physician and writer Andreas Veselius is considered the founder of modern human anatomy because he published the most famous anatomy book, De Humani corporis fabrica Libri septem on the fabric of the Human body in seven Books.
She said that on the occasion of Anatomy Day, the families involved in the sacred work like human body donation were honored. Dr. BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali, the Department of Anatomy received 7 human bodies last year through voluntary donation by their families. These families decided to donate their bodies to the medical college after death. She said that it is a very great idea where a person wants to serve the society with his dead body. Such acts of organ donation play an important role in the education of young doctors and provide them with a strong foundation in the future of doctors and these doctors go on to serve the society better. Such decisions of body donation by families also inspire others to serve humanity. On this occasion, the staff members of AIIMS Mohali presented a play showing the importance of physical donation and MBBS. A poem on body donation written by Mr. Amrik Shera (Kaala Chashma fame) was also recited by Sargampreet, a student.
Apart from this, Dr. Manisha, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, AIMS. Mohali said that on this occasion inter college competitions like calligraphy workshop, anatomy quiz and body painting were conducted. Dr.Kanchan Kapoor from GMCH Chandigarh, Dr.Tulika from PGIMER Chandigarh to decide about body painting, Dr. Sumangal Roy from Government College of Art Chandigarh and Ms. Gayatri from SMHS Government College, Mohali were invited. She explained that the first, second and third positions in body painting were bagged by Jasmin, Diksha Rangbulla and Diksha Bansal from Gian Sagar Medical College Banur, Satish, Sabrina and Sakshi from AIIMS Mohali and Harkirat, Dishant and Jasmin from DMC Ludhiana.
She told that the first, second and third place respectively in the anatomy quiz were won by Sirat, Manthan and Arush from Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, Ninad, Raghav and Kashis from Gyan Sagar Medical College Banur and Dixit, Jaskanwal Singh and Shruti from Government Medical Colleges, Patiala.
