Not taken up issues in last-four-and-a-half years, ruling Congress now trying to pacify people through committees
Captain still sitting in his farmhouse, merry-making more important than public issues

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema termed the formation of a committee of MLAs by Capt Amarinder Singh as a betrayal of the people. Cheema alleged that the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had not taken any gist of the farmers, laborers, employees, students and youth of Punjab in the last four-and-a-half-years; but now by forming a committee headed by former MLA Lal Singh, they are pretending to listen to the problems of the people of the state. He said that Capt Amarinder Singh, who had promised the people before the elections to resolve all their issues; had betrayed them by becoming the Chief Minister after winning the elections.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Friday, Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Every section of Punjab has been forced to sit on the streets today and are hoping that the promises made in the Congress manifesto will be fulfilled. But the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has been completely absent from Punjab.” He said that Capt Amarinder Singh had visited Punjab only ten times in the last four-and-half-years while most of his time was spent in the hills or on the Siswan farm. But Capt Amarinder Singh makes big claims to develop Punjab by putting up huge advertisements on government buses and various other places, he added.
Cheema said the realm of dharna protests in the state was that 1,153 dharnas had taken place outside the royal palace of Capt Amarinder Singh at Patiala in the last six months; in which 57 big state-level dharnas had started. In addition, ETT, JBT unemployed teachers were climbing on tanks and towers in Capt Amarinder Singh’s own city. He said even at present about ten dharnas of employees belonging to different departments are going on in Capt Amarinder’s city.
The AAP leader alleged that the announcement by Capt Amarinder Singh to form a four-member committee headed by Lal Singh to sit at Capt Amarinder Singh’s official residence to listen to the grievances of the people was only to deceive them; because this is what Navjot Singh Sidhu had tried to do earlier, which has failed miserably. Harpal Singh Cheema asked Capt Amarinder Singh why the problems of the people have not been solved when he (Captain) has developed Punjab. “Is Capt Amarinder Singh doing such dramas to save his sinking reputation?” said Cheema.
