Waking up is really hard for some people. It’s not because they are lazy or that they did not get a full sleep the previous night.  The current trend is also that we stay up all night working and consuming copious amounts of caffeine and if not that, we are addicted to our phones and social media.  But our scriptures and recent research has shown that there is one time in the day which is good for the body and for the soul- the Brahma Muhurta.

It literally means the ‘creator’s hour’ and is the last phase (or muhurta) of the night and the best time to practice all yoga, meditation and worship rituals. Each muhurta lasts for about 48 minutes so it begins 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise and ends 48 minutes before sunrise. The environment in this duration is so calm, peaceful and soothing due to the special relationship between the sun and moon. The mind is absolutely fresh after a good sleep and this is the best time to become one with your body, mind and soul. Meditation during this time reduces lethargy and improves mental state. The body also realizes high amounts of melatonin which helps in keeping us stable, so this time is best to make full use of this hormone.

Brahma  is considered to be the creator of time. One can look at this time as a time to create oneself, to rejuvenate oneself for the day that is to follow.  There are a lot of reasons and benefits surrounding this time.

Students

This period is very beneficial for students as the concentration level is at its peak. According to study, melatonin levels peak at night and ebb by the time the sun rises. The drop in this is followed by a rise in the anti- stress hormone, cortisol which typically results in stimulation of anti- inflammatory and anti- stress pathways. It is very beneficial to use this time to focus on studies.

Meditation

Yogis and meditators chose this time in the morning for good reason.  They send out their vibrations throughout the world and benefit all. This is the best time to enter into deep meditation and inhale the positivity while exhaling out all toxins. Meditation takes very less effort as it is and this time is best to enjoy that inner peace.
