Celebration of Doctors day at AIMS Mohali

Celebrated annually on July 1, the doctor’s day recognizes the selfless service of doctors in preventing as well as mitigating the human suffering due to diseases and other health challenges. The theme for 2021 National Doctor’s Day was “Save the Saviours” highlighting the challenges and sacrifices made by healthcare frontline workers during the ongoing unprecedented crisis of corona pandemic.
In this backdrop, Dr B R Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) Mohali today celebrated the doctor’s day commemorating the birth and death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Awardee, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.
Dr Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal, delivered a motivating talk about the life of Dr B C Roy, the shining light of medical profession in India. Doctor’s day is devoted to the memory of a respected physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr Roy was born on July 1, 1882, and also died on the same date in 1962. His penchant for academic perfection and selfless grass root service of patients were really laudable. All the faculty members of AIMS Mohali participated and pledged their commitment for unconditional, selfless and dedicated service to their patients as well as society. Further Dr. Shikha Chawla , Associate Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology highlighted the achievements of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and added that British Medical Journal, in 1962 had declared him as the “ first medical consultant in the subcontinent of India.” Dr. Money Gupta, Associate Professor, General Surgery described the continuous efforts of the medical fraternity in defeating Covid-19; keeping their morale high in these turbulent times During the celebration, it was also an opportune time to reflect upon our ethics and oaths imposed upon all doctors in this noble profession. According to Hippocrates, whenever a doctor cannot do good, he must be kept from doing harm. Empathy which is a vital element of doctor patient relationship, was beautifully illustrated with the help of a movie “ The Doctor” during the celebrations. Doctors shared their thoughts on empathy and doctor patient relationship to bridge the gap between them and the society. All the faculty members of the institute had written reflective notes on their journey as doctor, depicting various roles during this endeavour. Director Principal Dr. Bhavneet Bharti emphasized that by self-introspecting and reflecting upon one’s own journey by the medical educators would help them in bringing out the best in their medical students. “Reminiscence-Reflective notes by Doctors” was released by Mr. Rahul Gupta, IAS, Joint Director, Dr B.R. Ambedkar State Institute Of Medical Sciences. Mohali. Dr Navdeep Saini, Medical Superintendent, AIMS Mohali also motivated young faculty to give their best in this testing times of corona pandemic and at the same time protect themselves and their families back home.
