After Ghaggar’s water flow touched the seven feet mark, Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar Girish Dayalan today reviewed all necessary arrangements in low lying areas of the river as more rains were expected.
Acknowledging district administration will remain on high alert, Mr. Dayalan said that a 24X7 Flood Control Room is working in the administrative complex to monitor any kind of flood-like situation in the district and evacuation centers with essential items are ready for any eventuality. Reviewing the Flood Control arrangements, the DC said that the district administration would remain fully vigil, so as to avoid any sort of untoward incident due to the rainy season. He also directed the officials to strengthen flood prone sensitive places to minimize damage in the possibility of any flood. He said that the district administration has already made adequate arrangements to meet any sort of situation in the wake of the rainy season.
The Deputy Commissioner told Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dera Bassi to remain vigilant and sounded alert in downstream areas of Ghaggar and chalk out an evacuation plan in case of flood and be ready with evacuation centers, where all the necessary arrangements should be in place. He said that the contingent plan has been prepared by every department and they were fully equipped to tackle any sort of situation.
Mr. Dayalan also reviewed the arrangements made by Food & Supply, Irrigation, Power, Drainage, Municipal Corporation and Police department for tackling the situation, in case of floods. He said that all the concerned departments should work in unison with each other to ensure that it was completed swiftly. He also told Sub Divisional Magistrates to monitor flood situations on hourly basis in their respective areas and submit a detailed report regarding these to him. He said that any sort of laxity in this work would not be tolerated and the work must be completed in a time bound manner.
