HOTELS/RESTAURANTS/DHABAS & LIQUOR SHOPS TO CLOSE IN DISTRICT LUDHIANA AFTER 11 PM DAILY

In view of ensuing polling day on February 20, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Varinder Kumar Sharma has declared dry day in district from 6pm on February 18 to February 20, 2022 till conclusion of the voting.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner said dry day has been declared in entre district from 6 pm to February 18-20 in wake of the polling for Assembly elections.  Likewise, he also said that dry day has also been declared in district of March 10 the day on which counting of votes would take place.

The Deputy Commissioner said that on these days, no hotel, restaurant, club and others would be allowed to serve liquor in their premises. He further said that no person can store liquor on these days as well. He stated that these orders have been issued to maintain law and order in view of the polling and counting.

In another order, the District Magistrate Ludhiana stated that it has come to his notice that within the jurisdiction of District Ludhiana, some hotels, restaurants/dhabas, liquor shops etc. stay open for a long time at night and illegal activities are being carried out by anti-social elements.  This creates a sense of fear among the general public and also disrupts the law and order situation. Therefore, special measures need to be taken in the public interest to prevent such incidents at hotels/dhabas, liquor shops at night.

While exercising the powers under Section 144 of CRPC of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (Act-2 of 1974) in District Ludhiana, the District Magistrate has prohibited hotels, restaurants/distilleries and liquor shops from being open after 11.00 pm at night in the public interest.  These orders will remain in force till 12/03/2022.

The Commissioner of Police Ludhiana, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana (Rural) / Khanna and Assistant Commissioner of Excise and Taxation, Ludhiana will be responsible for the full implementation of these orders.
