Ferozepur, August 12 2021
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab will gherao the residences of Cabinet Ministers Balbir Singh Sidhu and Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, who have allegedly been embroiled in corruption and fraud, on August 13 (Friday). AAP’s spokesperson and MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur and Chand Singh Gill (District President) said a protest would be staged in front of Rana Sodhi’s residence in Guru Har Sahai (Ferozepur) and outside Balbir Sidhu’s Mohali residence. Earlier, a delegation of the AAP MLAs had met the Governor of Punjab, Honorable V.P. Singh Badnore against the corrupt ministers of the Congress government; demanding their immediate dismissal from the Cabinet.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Thursday, Prof Baljinder Kaur said seeing no action being taken against the corrupt ministers; the party has decided to gherao the residences of Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu in Mohali and Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Sodhi in Ferozepur. She said Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu had scammed the purchase of Fateh Kit for treatment from Covid and had acquired 10 acres of land worth over Rs 100 crore of village Balongi in Mohali city, in the name of Gaushala.
Chand Singh Gill said Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi had received money twice for his acquired land and after trying to get the money for the third time; had misused his power and cheated the state exchequer, she said. Baljinder Kaur further said that Rana Sodhi’s 58 kanal 6 marla land at village Mohan Ke Hithar and his nephew Jasdeep Singh Sodhi’s 38 kanal land was first acquired by the government in 1962 and the due amount of Rs 7,384 was received by the Sodhi family. For the second time during the Akali government in 2012, the Sodhi family had received compensation of Rs 1.83 crore for this land, she added.
The AAP leader said on the one hand, the owners of the lands acquired for the Delhi-Katra road were struggling to get fair compensation; but on the other hand the government ministers were repeatedly seeking compensation for the same land for the third time; which had also been termed as wrong by the Advocate General’s Office of Punjab. Baljinder Kaur alleged that Cabinet Ministers Balbir Singh Sidhu and Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi had betrayed the government and the people by holding constitutional office. She said a criminal case should be registered against these ministers and they should be removed from the cabinet.
